Artificial turf pitches with no synthetic infill material (but sand) have been recently discussed as a more sustainable choice for the future. Two of IAKS Nordic’s experts on artificial turf systems presented their latest experiences and knowledge on the matter:
- Bjørn Aas, Chief Engineer, Center for Sports Facilities and Technology, Norway
In Norway, Bjørn is leading a research project on artificial turf at the Norwegian University of Technology and Science called KG2021. They have been testing non-infill pitches for a few years.
- Holger Kortbek, Head of Sports, Gladsaxe Municipality, Denmark
As Head of Sports at the Municipality of Gladsaxe, Denmark, Holger has recently lead the municipality in a more sustainable direction by investing in four different non-infill test pitches to find the best match for the users. In his talk, he focused on the importance of user involvement in the process.
