On 28 October, Mitsuru Senda (Chairman, Environmental Design Institute), Hisao Kawano (General Manager, Project Management Department, Taisei Design Division) and Maki Ito (General Manager, Design Department 7, Taisei Design Division) were invited by IAKS Japan to give lectures on “EDION Peace Wing Hiroshima: Towards the Realisation of a 365-day Peace Wing”.
The experts presented the different steps of the realisation of a stadium in the city centre. The venue is vibrant 365 days a year. Under the large roof of the Peace Wing is the complex that symbolises the peaceful city of Hiroshima. The experts explained thoroughly how the south side facing the river allows natural light and wind to enter and nurture the natural turf, while the north side facing the high-rise residential buildings is sloped so as not to block the light.
The stadium, which represents the “Peace Wing” while taking into consideration the surrounding residential areas, is not a slightly closed design as in Europe, but a cosy stadium open to the community and wrapped in the light lines of the Zhangxian beams.
As to be seen in the photo, the fans of the two teams about to play each other were mingling and looking comfortable in the stadium, which was a perfect representation of the regional character of Hiroshima, a city of peace.
IAKS Japan would like to thank Mitsuru Senda, Hisao Kawano and Maki Ito for their lectures, and everyone who attended. The webinar was conducted both in Japanese and English language.
