New hot spot for basketball

A new centre for streetballers in Germany has sprung up in the Berlin Prenzlauer Berg district: the basketball courts in the Friedrich Ludwig Jahn sports park have been opened. The highlight of the facility is the covered main court under an outdoor hall by SMC2, which can be used all-season. All in all, three full-sized basketball courts with six modern, height-adjustable baskets and high-quality rubber flooring have been created. Berlin’s senator for sports, Andreas Geisel, opened the facility on June 21, highlighting the cooperation with the youth department of ALBA BERLIN, which will be the key user in the future. The courts are now an additional training opportunity for sports clubs. However, they also provide a new opportunity for supervised and non-supervised basketball for residents and basketball players from all over Berlin.

The idea behind the project is to offer a freely accessible sports facility that can be used all-season and under all weather conditions, thus offering great potential for use. The outdoor hall above the main court fulfills exactly this objective: the glulam structure is covered with a textile membrane and protects the court from rain and snow. At the same time, the textile membrane is translucent, so no artificial lighting is needed during the day and players can play in consistent, natural light. In addition, the membrane offers a high level of thermal and acoustic comfort and thus guarantees an optimal playing experience. Finally, the outdoor hall made of wood and membrane is perfectly integrated in the environment, making the new facility in Prenzlauer Berg an attractive hot spot for basketball players.
