Compact, urban and well-conceived
The Main Bad pool in Frankfurt-Bornheim is a leisure and competition swimming pool that combines environmental responsibility with high amenity value. The compact new building uses energy and resources efficiently, has dispensed with a basement, sources electricity from a photovoltaic system and integrates heat recovery and rainwater utilisation into its operating model.
In the immediate vicinity of the ice rink, 4a Architects, acting as general planners, have developed a compact, three-storey building that blends harmoniously into the urban setting and makes optimum use of the available space.
Sleek curves and an incision into the facade in the entrance area inject vitality into the basic triangular shape. The bright colour scheme of the louvred cladding on the ground and upper floors creates a lively atmosphere while also showcasing the entrance area. The technical rooms are located on the ground floor, while the bathing hall with its spacious glazing is located on the upper floor. This location gives bathers an unobstructed view of the greenery and ensures a light-flooded bathing experience with a panoramic quality.
