From July 2024 to July 2025, rasenplan installed five new turf heating systems, including complete control systems, at the ÖFB Campus, the new training center of the Austrian Football Association in Vienna-Seestadt. The energy supply operates exclusively with pure groundwater, making the system entirely CO₂-free.

One of the fields features a heating and cooling system for artificial turf, implemented using rasenplan’s patented piped turf grid. The heating pipes are embedded about 3 cm deep directly into a pre-assembled grid, which makes the system highly responsive—able to thaw the pitch within just a few hours when needed. In summer, the cooling effect on the artificial turf is immediately noticeable to the players, improving circulation and comfort. The piped turf grid system has been patent-pending in the EU.

Advantages of rasenplan’s piped turf grid®

The heating pipes are fully protected within the grid structure and cannot leak. The surface can be safely driven over with heavy machinery. When replacing the artificial turf, the pipes remain unaffected by maintenance equipment or vehicles. Other systems can develop leaks over time due to repeated mechanical stress on heating mats. rasenplan’s solution, however, is extremely durable, with a lifespan of at least 50 years.

Because the turf grids are made from recycled plastic material, the system is also highly eco-friendly.

Since 2016, rasenplan GmbH has coordinated entire projects from a single source—from groundwater pumping or air-to-water heat pump systems with their heating centers to in-house turf heating control. From feasibility studies and analysis to design and installation of the piped turf grids, customers benefit from one reliable partner for the entire process.
