The Finnish Supervisory Agency is a national, multi-sectoral government authority responsible for licensing and permits, supervision, registration, enforcement, and guidance tasks across various fields.

The Sports Division of the Agency promotes physical activity, wellbeing, and functional capacity throughout the lifespan. Their work is based on legislation, and they strengthen the role of physical activity as a core municipal service while improving local conditions in cooperation with municipalities. They support municipalities in achieving sports policy goals through state subsidies, education, information guidance, and by producing data on the regional availability of sports services. They also engage in both national and international network cooperation.

They grant state subsidies to municipalities and other actors for projects that increase physical activity and improve the wellbeing of different population groups. They provide guidance for sports and leisure facility construction and fund different types of projects.
