What do open spaces and activity areas spaces optimally look like?

(from left to right)

Klaus Meinel (Secretary General, IAKS) and Matthias Pollmann (Vice President Trade Fair Management, Koelnmesse GmbH) at the FSB 2023 digital press conference on 20 June 2023, interviewed by Alexander Königsmann

Exciting industry insights and the latest news about FSB were discussed at a digital press briefing on 20 June 2023.

The focus of the press conference: the topic of sustainability. Because the sports and leisure industry is also facing enormous economic, ecological and social challenges worldwide.

The best open spaces and activity areas are those that mobilise users with diverse needs and individual abilities to engage in physical activities and social interaction. Such spaces must be a kind of "feel-good place" for family and health-oriented lifestyles. Good open spaces are therefore open, safe and protective spaces.

As activity areas, they must equally offer low-threshold, gentle entry points and also provide certain challenges for ambitious users. They should be multifunctional, open to change and accessible 24/7. Good activity spaces are therefore appealing, innovative, surprising and stimulating. Against the backdrop of global warming, the element of water is increasingly being used for play or refreshment.
