From 2003 onwards, Stadtwerke Osnabrück (Osnabrück public utility company) pressed ahead with the transformation of the swimming pools in Osnabrück and now operates three high-quality pools instead of seven in need of renovation. Thanks to repositioning the company in line with its target groups and a wealth of creative ideas, there are now three successful pools in Osnabrück: the Moskaubad, an outdoor family pool in the heart of Osnabrück; the Schinkelbad as the leading health pool; and the Nettebad fun pool. As a result, the three pools have been attracting more than 1.2 million visitors per year for the last six years compared to only 600,000 visitors a year to seven baths in 1996. The pool deficit is thus being steadily reduced, sales revenue has quadrupled and the cost recovery ratio has doubled.
