The IAKS Expert Circle on Pools comprising international experts has published its statement on the operation of swimming pools under the conditions prevailing in the COVID-19 pandemic. The circle assesses the factors of “social distancing and hygiene rules”, “pool water”, “cleaning of the facility” and “ventilation”. The experts conclude that the closure of a public swimming pool is not proportionate in relation to other public buildings such as shopping centres. They advocate the operation of swimming pools with the application of special protective measures and stress the beneficial health effects of swimming in pools.
