Re-opening public sports grounds: IAKS video cast available

On 18 May, international experts exchanged information and ideas via a videoconference on how to reopen sports grounds and public outdoor areas. The video cast is available free of charge at the IAKS Youtube channel. It aims at sharing current knowledge and offering learnings for your situation.

Serving as the Deputy Executive Director of Recreation for Denver Parks & Recreation (USA), John Martinez is responsible for 30 recreation centers, 31 pools, and 10 core programs. There are more than 250 parks in the County of Denver. John talked about his challenges and expectations for the citizens of Denver.

Rolf Haas, Member of the Executive Board of IAKS Germany, mentioned the regulations and recommendations issued by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). Tennis, for example, has been re-opened to club members in two of the 16 federal states in Germany only four weeks after the lockdown.

Dr Gerold Sattlecker from RIF University Sports Centre (Austria) explained the different hygiene and protection measures he and his team had to implement for indoor and outdoor activities that are only accessible to elite athletes in the first phase. Austria expects the opening of all outdoor and indoor facilities for recreational use by the end of May.

The discussion led to questions like acceptance of the rules by users as well as tools for tracking users.
