NSC Forums November: The Importance for Participation, Community and Elite Sport

In November 2020, the National Sport Convention (NSC) will be hosted in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane with one day forums focussing on "Shaping Our Future", post COVID-19. In addition, the NSC Forums are offered both for onsite delegates to attend and virtually.

As the Australian population continues to grow with increasing numbers of children in families, it is critical that all levels of government, education and the sports and recreation sectors collaborate to provide encouragement and opportunities for children to play and be physically literate. This year’s NSC Forums will explore why it is critical to encourage children to be active, discuss programs that are creating significant impacts, and hear what young people really want.

In addition, the three NSC Forums will hear from:

  • Dr Lindsey Reece, Senior Research Fellow and Academic Director, SPRINTER Partnership, University of Sydney – Evaluating the Impact of NSW Government Active Kids Program: What have we learnt so far?
  • Melinda Crole, Chief Executive Officer, YMCA Australia – The Importance of Young People Connecting via Community Recreation
  • Barb Champion, Executive Director, Play Australia – Active Streets: Resolving the Problem of Inadequate Space to Play and Recreate for Our Children

  • Prof. John Cairney, Head of School - School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences, University of Queensland – The Importance of Physical Literacy to Australia
