IAKS President calls for motivating activity spaces

At the European press conference for FSB, the International Trade Fair for Public Space, Sports and Leisure Activities, which took place in Hamburg on 29 May, IAKS President Dr Stefan Kannewischer called for the creation of motivating activity spaces.

“Activity spaces have to be inviting and motivating, i.e. with low barriers to entry – both physical and psychological,” says Kannewischer. “At the beginning of the 20th century, both sport and sports facilities were standardised. The space dictated what one could and should do. In the meantime, the architecture has evolved, but not the content. This must now be changed: We need open, motivating places for exercise that can be used at any time.”

The 26th International IAKS Congress in Cologne will highlight the demanding challenges facing activists in the development of new sports and leisure facilities.
