Sport Arena in Vienna

Three distinct sports areas and a modern high-performance training centre, spread across several floors, all brought together in one place: the Sport Arena Wien is a multifunctional sports centre. Available for use all year round, this training facility and event venue is also energy self-sufficient. The team led by Karl and Bremhorst Architects has given the arena’s dual use a clearly structured spatial organisation.

Re-interpretation of a sports location

Situated between the Danube, the Prater and the Ernst Happel Stadium, Vienna’s new Sport Arena has been built on the site of the former Ferry Dusika Stadium. It is a mod­ern, multi-purpose sports centre that provides space for a wide variety of sports on a single site. By placing the sports areas on different levels, it was possible to triple the space available for sport while reducing the sealed surface area. As a result, 13,600 m² is now available for both leisure and competitive sport.
