Designing for the future of student wellbeing
As part of a major redevelopment project at the University of Southampton, the extended Jubilee Sports Centre sets a new benchmark for student wellbeing on campus. Designed by GT3 Architects, the facility blends sport, social space and sustainability to support physical health, mental wellness and a stronger sense of belonging.
As universities evolve into far more than places of academic learning, the design of their spaces must adapt accordingly. For today’s students, sport and leisure facilities are more than amenities – they’re vital assets for mental and physical health, socialization, and building a sense of belonging.
At the University of Southampton, the extended Jubilee Sports Centre is a direct response to these changing needs. The extension reflects a broader shift towards integrated, inclusive, and sustainable wellbeing spaces on campus – offering students and staff a place not just to work out, but to connect, recharge and grow.
