Are you late to the party?
Sustainable sport and recreation facilities are spaces where everyone can participate, belong and feel welcome. Yet accessibility is often considered late in the planning process, or reduced to meeting minimum building requirements. Creating truly accessible spaces requires us to think more broadly about our communities of today and tomorrow and the customer and participant experience.
What to expect?
The webinar will include insights from the recently published Creating Accessible and Welcoming Spaces and Places Guidelines developed by Recreation Aotearoa, in partnership with Sport NZ Ihi Aotearoa and BarrierFree before diving deeper into Australia’s first purpose-built indoor facility for disability sport the Blacktown Disability Sports Centre.
Why attend?
The webinar aims to challenge planners and decision-makers to look beyond compliance and consider how thoughtful, inclusive design can create better experiences, increase opportunities for participation and deliver facilities that work for more people, now and into the future by focusing on practical ways to improve accessibility in both new and existing facilities, from early planning and design through to day-to-day operation.
