It is activated through an interactive art installation suspended in a bridge soffit across the laneway.

IAKS starts Expert Circle for Outdoor Sports Surfaces

The round of participating experts had a highly knowledgeable talk about research findings, recycling methods, and interests of public stakeholders. Even if the majority of participants were from EU member countries, it became obvious that there is a wide range of perceptions for synthetic turf in different countries that leads to different priorities and preferences.

New Vice President

Tom Jones, Senior Principal at Populous, United Kingdom has been appointed new IAKS Vice President at the Executive Board Meeting which was held virtually on November 26, 2020. He has a great passion for sport and has been able to use this in the design and delivery of a number of high-profile projects around the world, including Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Emirates Stadium for Arsenal FC and the Olympic Stadium for the London 2012 Olympic Games. Join us in wishing Tom every success in his new position.

New Treasurer

Holger Kortbek, Head of Sports Facilities at the Municipality of Gladsaxe, Denmark has been appointed new IAKS Treasurer at the Executive Board Meeting which was held virtually on November 26, 2020. Holger succeeds Dr Markus Fischer from Germany. Since its founding in 2017, Holger sits on the board of IAKS Nordic. Join us in wishing Holger every success in his new position.

Submit now your project to the most important international architecture prizes for innovative and sustainable sports and leisure facilities and choose one of the six competition categories: stadiums, community outdoor grounds or public areas, multi-purpose arenas, indoor facilities, pools or wellness facilities, as well as specialised facilities.

The new Lonza Arena building fills a gap in the urban fabric. With a total area of 5,700 m² and a building height of 15 m, the ice and event hall blends harmoniously into its surroundings. Its recessed façade create outdoor spaces and forecourt zones. The transparent building envelope supports the basic spatial idea of merging inside and outside.

Originally designed in 1988, it is one of the top entertainment venues in the world by ticket sales and attendance levels, averaging more than 200 event days annually. For the redevelopment, COX considered important the design of the new public spaces and striking Eastern Annex, working to enhance the arena‘s identity and image, providing new entry points and access to the expanded concourse, retail offerings and amenities.
