Presentations and discussion with the panellists

Oct 26, 2023 from 15:30 – 17:00

28th IAKS Congress in Cologne, Germany

An active living strategy means multiple efforts at the local level: Putting physical activity at the heart of multisectoral strategies and policies; making it a driving force to impact health and well-being; focus on organised and self-organised sports activities; implementation, and continuous improvement of a system-based approach in the short, medium and long term; and understanding the city as a facilitator of a local dynamic of partnerships and networks, accessibility and inclusiveness.

This session will offer learnings from global active cities from around the world, tools to better understand the impact on the activity level and show best practices of small interventions that can make the difference.

André Flatner works as Agency Manager for Active Lives at the City of Fredrikstad in Norway. He knows first-hand what a Global Active City is like, because Fredrikstad was certified Global Active City in 2022. Together with Alister Dalrymple from Evaleo he will present the “Learnings from being an Active City”.

In his talk “The power of movement (data)” Ben Jones from ActiveXchange will shine a light on how governments, sports, charities and agencies are now leveraging a deeper insight based on activity-related data to drive greater collaboration, better decisions, and ultimately, greater physical activity, social and financial returns.

Prof. Dr Takanori Fukuoka from the Tokyo University of Agriculture, Dept. of Landscape Architecture Science will discuss some actual design case studies demonstrating design and function of places.

Leon van Dijk of Team SportBox will present his thoughts on “Completing recreation infrastructure for a better utilization”.
